| BOTOX INJECTION FOR WRINKLES AND OTHER APPLICATIONS
Botox is a purified protein toxin produced by the
clostridium botulinum bacteria. Although Botox is a
toxin, there have been no serious side effects with
extremely small amounts. A few drops of Botox are
injected with a tiny needle into the muscle that
creates a wrinkle. Botox blocks the nerve impulse and
weakens muscles. As a result, the skin overlying the
muscle relaxes and the wrinkles in the skin gradually
soften and often disappear.
When Botox is injected, there is minor stinging for a
few seconds. The effects of Botox usually last three
to five months, at which time another injection is
required. After several treatments, the effects of
Botox may begin to last longer, sometimes up to six to
eight months.
There are very few restrictions regarding Botox
treatment. Patients who are pregnant, are nursing,
have neurologic disease, or are allergic to eggs or
egg whites should not be treated.
Dr. Steven Shu provides Botox injection services.
Besides cosmetic treatments, he also uses Botox
injection to treat chronic anal fissure and
oversweating in palms and axillae.
